Solar and EV Charging in Auckland
New solar panels with or without batteries, EV chargers, and the electrical work to convert your gas set-up to all-electric - at the same time as the solar, or separately if you prefer.
Solar Installed by the Electrician, Not Around One
A solar system is an electrical installation. The panels are the visible part; the inverter, the isolators, the cabling, the switchboard work and the grid connection are where a system is done well or badly, and they are electrical work that has to be certified. We are electricians first, so the whole system - roof to switchboard - is installed, tested and signed off by the same people. Many switchboards take a solar system as they are and some do not. We check yours when we assess the job and tell you straight whether it needs anything, and if it does, it is part of the same job rather than a separate trade and a separate bill.
What We Install
- Solar panels. Roof-mounted arrays sized to your roof, its orientation and how your household actually uses power.
- Batteries, or not. A grid-connected system without storage, or a hybrid system with a battery so the power you make in the day is there in the evening. We will talk you through which suits your house rather than sell you the bigger one.
- EV chargers. A dedicated home charger in the garage or on the drive, on its own protected circuit, so the car charges overnight properly instead of off a wall socket.
- The switchboard and the grid connection. The board checked and, only if it needs it, upgraded to take the system; the isolators and labelling the standards require; and the paperwork for your lines company.
Going All-Electric: Gas Out, Electric In
If you have gas hot water, a gas hob or gas heating, solar is the natural moment to take the gas off the property and run the house entirely on electricity - and we can do that whole conversion. An electric or heat pump hot water cylinder in place of the gas califont, an induction hob in place of the gas hob, a heat pump in place of the gas heater, and all the wiring, circuits and switchboard work those changes need. We can do it at the same time as the solar, so the house is disrupted once, or as a separate job on its own if that suits you better.
Commercial Solar
Businesses that use power during the day - workshops, cool stores, offices, retail - are often the best fit for solar of all. We install commercial systems and the switchboard and distribution work that goes with them, scheduled around your trading hours.
Before You Get a Quote
It helps to have a recent power bill to hand, to know roughly which way your roof faces, and to have a sense of what you want the system to do: cut the bill, charge a car, keep the lights on in an outage, or get off gas. Those answers change the design more than anything else. We do not publish savings figures, because every house is different; what we will do is design the system for yours and tell you honestly what it can and cannot do.

Solar and EV Questions
Do I need a battery with solar?
Not necessarily. A grid-connected system without a battery uses the power as it is made and exports the rest; a battery stores it for the evening and can keep some circuits running in a power cut. Which is right depends on when your household uses power and what you want from the system. We will talk it through rather than assume.
Can I add a battery or an EV charger later?
Yes, if the system is designed for it from the start. Choosing a battery-ready inverter and leaving room on the switchboard makes adding either later a small job. Say so at the quote stage and we will design it that way.
Will a standard solar system work in a power cut?
A plain grid-connected system shuts down in a power cut for the safety of the people working on the lines. If keeping the power on matters to you, you need a hybrid system with a battery and backup capability, and we can design that.
Can you take the gas off completely?
Yes. We replace gas hot water, cooking and heating with electric alternatives and do all the wiring and switchboard work they need. We can do it alongside the solar so the house is only disrupted once, or as a separate job.
Does my house need a switchboard upgrade for solar?
Not necessarily. Plenty of boards take a solar system as they are. It depends on the board: the inverter, a battery and an EV charger each need their own protected circuit and space to fit, and an old board with fuses or no RCDs may need replacing. We check it when we assess the job and tell you whether yours does or does not, and if it does, the upgrade is part of the same job.
